Sky Germany: Mainz star ‘one to watch’ ahead of summer – Milan and Inter among admirers

There is a Polish talent playing in the Bundesliga that is catching the eye of some top teams in Italy: Kacper Potulski of Mainz.

Milan have always shown a willingness to invest in young talent under the ownership of RedBird Capital and Elliott Management prior. Even in the most recent summer window Koni De Winter, David Odogu, Samuele Ricci, Zachary Athekame and Ardon Jashari arrived, all under 24 at the time of signing.

Potulski on the Rossoneri’s radar

According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport DE, Kacper Potulski could be the next name for Milan. He writes: “Potulski is already one to watch ahead of the summer transfer window. Milan, Inter and Como have already gathered information about him.

“Chelsea – potentially with a loan move to Strasbourg – as well as Brighton and Brentford, are also interested. The 18 y/o centre-back, regarded as a top talent, is under contract at Mainz until 2028.”

The Polish talent has exploded in the Bundesliga and there is a queue to snatch him from Mainz as soon as possible, it seems. Having come through the youth ranks of Lechia Gdansk in the far north of Poland, Potulski has always stood out for his physical dominance and aerial ability.

In 2021, he joined Legia Warsaw, where he remained until the summer of 2023, when Mainz acquired him. This season, he has made 18 appearances with one goal and one assist in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Conference League.

What’s most interesting and impressive, however, are his defensive numbers: 4.9 duels won per game and an average of 8.7 recoveries per 90 minutes.
