Sky journalist outlines Milan’s mercato needs: “A centre-forward like Dusan Vlahovic”

AC Milan need some more pieces from the transfer window to become a complete team, according to Sky’s Peppe Di Stefano.

One of the dominant media narratives surrounding Milan is again the lack of a true centre-forward who has the propensity to battle for the Capocannoniere, despite the fact goals are coming from other sources and the team are two points off top.

There is also talk about the need to have a higher quality alternative in the centre-back department given the doubts about David Odogu remaining for the second half of the season, and the wing-back department looks thin after Zachary Athekame’s injury.

What Milan need in January

Di Stefano gave an interview to MilanVibes and he was asked about what Milan need in the winter transfer window, with his comments via MilanNews.

“The current positive results can give you the opportunity to operate in the transfer market. In my opinion, Milan needs another high-quality central defender to raise their competitiveness. I liked Akanji at Inter, who Milan needed to raise their level.

“Milan’s midfield has raised its level since Rabiot arrived. Some players were afraid of losing their places and stepped up their game. Rabiot has brought competitiveness. Then they need a good-quality wing-back to have another one ready to go, one who doesn’t have shaky legs when you put him on the pitch.

“In my opinion, Rabiot is Milan’s metronome, almost more so than Modric. Coincidentally, Modric returned to his best form with Rabiot. Rabiot has pace, he knows how to defend, he knows how to attack, he knows how to hold up the ball well, he returned after a 45-day layoff and played for 98 minutes. Rabiot is crucial.

“Up front, Milan need a centre-forward like Dusan Vlahovic. He’s incredibly highly paid, but that’s the type of player you should sign. Milan don’t have a centre-forward, but if they’d had Giroud [against Inter], certain crosses could have been capitalised on better.

“Gimenez, in addition to his physical problems, is a story that has never been one of love. Due to a series of coincidences, the spark never ignited.”
