Sky: Milan offer for Maignan renewal largely similar to 365 days ago – the details

AC Milan have prepared the contract for Mike Maignan to sign, and now all that needs to be done is for him to sign it. A tense few days await.

It seems that Milan are truly in the final stages of renewing Maignan’s deal. The road has been long, and for large parts challenging. However, it now appears that the Rossoneri are going to extend the contract of one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

Considering his current form, many would suggest that the hardship would be worth his future. It could have easily been avoided, though.

Maignan’s renewal: The figures

Almost a year ago, the Diavolo made an offer to the Frenchman, but it was later changed due to questions about his performances, injuries and also the club’s finances, given they were heading to a year without Europe.

This alteration seemed to be the end of his time at San Siro, as any renewal talks after that were quickly shut down. However, after a lot of hard work, the goalkeeper may actually sign an extension on similar terms to what was originally offered last year.

As Sky reported earlier, via MilanNews, last season he was offered a deal until 2028, with the option of a further year. Now, though, the offer on the table would see him stay until 2031, keeping him for the foreseeable future, without any options of extending.

Additionally, his fixed salary will be around €5.5 million, a figure close to, if not surpassing, what Rafael Leao earns. The final agreement needs to be reached, but the report actually states that there is ‘an agreement in principle’.

In other words, the wait for his answer may just be confirmation of good news. We will not know officially until then, but it looks positive.
