Sky: Three new signings in a 3-5-2 – how Milan should line up after the mercato closed

The summer transfer window officially came to a close on Monday night, and AC Milan were among the teams to complete the most business.

In terms of acquisitions, the headline names were Ardon Jashari and Christopher Nkunku who arrived from Club Brugge and Chelsea respectively for €35m+. Samuele Ricci and Koni De Winter were the other €20m+ purchases.

Pervis Estupinan, Adrien Rabiot, Zachary Athekame, David Odogu, Luka Modric and Pietro Terracciano complete the list of incomings, with Massimiliano Allegri being given a replenished squad.

Milan’s new predicted line-up

How can we expect Milan to line up after the break? Well, Sky predict that Allegri will continue with a three-man defence and the same rearguard of Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic in front of the goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Alexis Saelemaekers and Pervis Estupinan should be the wing-backs, with Youssouf Fofana, Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot expected to be the midfield three. Ardon Jashari as a reminder is injured, while Ricci is down as Modric’s deputy.

Up front, Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic are expected to be preferred – at least initially – over Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku. The latter two are more natural strikers and cost over €70m combined, but should only be back-ups to start.

Predicted Milan XI (3-5-2): Maignan; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Saelemaekers, Fofana, Modric, Rabiot, Estupinan; Leao, Pulisic.
