Sport: Lewandowski’s stance emerges as Milan speak to agent amid expiring Barcelona deal

AC Milan have once again been linked with a move for Robert Lewandowski, and a response has arrived from a Spanish source.

Earlier on Friday, Sportitalia reported that Lewandowski has ‘strongly emerged’ as a target for Milan in their search for a striker. His contract with Barcelona expires at the end of season, and he would bring ‘experience and personality’ to a dressing room that already has Luka Modric.

According to Sport, Milan’s management have indeed met with Lewandowski’s agent – Pini Zahavi – to discuss the possibility of signing him. They are open to doing so either in January or when his contract with Barcelona expires, provided he doesn’t renew.

Milan ‘hope to replicate the success they have had with veteran Modric’, who has performed so well this season. Lewandowski is already aware of Milan’s interest and it’s one of the options he will consider in the summer, although his priority remains Barcelona.

Lewandowski has already informed Barça that he wants to stay for another year and is willing to take a pay cut and even a more secondary role, but he understands that nothing will be decided until the end of the season.

The Poland international will wait for the Catalan club until the last minute, as per the report. If they decide to move on he will begin to consider other offers but his goal is to remain in European football for another year, as he feels physically fit to perform at the highest level.

Milan are not entirely satisfied with the performance of their striker Santiago Giménez, and Allegri ‘believes the team lacks attacking prowess’ at present. They will pursue Lewandowski, but not until the summer window, because it is ‘impossible’ to get him in January, Sport conclude.
