Stefan Bajcetic provides three-word update on Liverpool injury return

1 hour ago 1

Liverpool's Stefan Bajcetic is making steady progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury that required surgery over the summer. The young midfielder, who was on loan at Las Palmas, had his season cut short due to the injury back in May.

The 20-year-old Spaniard missed all of Liverpool's pre-season and the Under-21s European Championships as he underwent surgery and began his rehabilitation, but had been hoping to work his way back into Arne Slot's plans.

His recovery has been taking place at Liverpool's AXA Training Centre in Kirkby throughout the summer. Recently, he was seen stepping up his recovery efforts, training alone with a ball during the September international break.

Bajcetic gave fans a hint that he's nearing a return to action via his Instagram page, where he posted a picture of himself at the club's training ground with the caption: "Counting the days."

Liverpool have been cautious with Bajcetic's recovery, given his history of significant injuries since breaking into the first team under Jurgen Klopp in 2022, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Under-21s manager Rob Page recently suggested that Bajcetic could be set for a return to Liverpool's second string in the near future.

"It is a possibility, isn't it?" he told reporters, including the ECHO. "It is about getting him back on the grass.

"It's about exposing him to minutes to get him back to full fitness."

Bajcetic is available for Premier League duty with Liverpool this campaign and can also feature in the Champions League's initial phase, as he qualifies for inclusion on 'List B'.

The Spain Under-21 star burst onto the first-team scene during the 2022/23 campaign but has appeared for Liverpool on just three occasions since March 2023 - with his most recent outing coming in May 2024.

He spent half of last season on loan with Red Bull Salzburg but struggled to nail down a regular starting spot before a similar loan at La Liga side Las Palmas.

The departure of Tyler Morton will have pushed Bajcetic up the pecking order at Liverpool but he must first prove his fitness to Slot.
