Steven Gerrard has confirmed that he rates Mohamed Salah as one of Liverpool's three best players of all time.

Salah has endured a difficult season and will leave the Reds at the end of the campaign – but he will do so after nine largely brilliant years with the club.

The Egyptian has won two Premier Leagues, a Champions League, and several other pieces of silverware with Liverpool, registering 256 goals and 122 assists in the process.

In a video shared by Sky Sports' The Overlap, Gerrard was asked to stay quiet until he heard the name of a bigger Liverpool legend than Salah.

Gerrard stayed quiet for names like Roberto Firmino and Ian Rush – and also, humbly, himself – before breaking his silence when Kenny Dalglish's name was read out.

Explaining his thinking, Gerrard said: "Kenny will always be the king, the main king – but Salah is also known as the king, but I think in terms of numbers, he'd be there with Rush and Dalglish for me."

Gerrard seemingly rates Salah significantly higher than Jamie Carragher does.

Gerrard's former teammate Carragher recently named his top 10 Liverpool players of all time, listing Salah at No.6, behind Gerrard, Dalglish, Graeme Souness, John Barnes and Rush.

Speaking earlier this month, Gerrard revealed how he had spoken to Salah in the wake of his explosive comments after an away game against Leeds in December, urging the Egyptian not to leave the club "under a cloud."

"I spoke to him around that interview at the time and sort of said to him, 'don't do what you've done and go under a cloud,'" said Gerrard, speaking on The Overlap podcast.

"I spoke to him direct. He texts me now and again, or I text him - more to do with if I'm going somewhere with Lio [Gerrard's son], just so Lio can see him, really, but I'm not like close to him.

"But it gave me the opportunity to say to him, 'look, you've been here eight, nine years, you've been king here, you've got this legacy, just go on your terms, the right way'.

"He was still a little bit emotional from the incident. He was in and out of the team at the time, he was upset.

"I just thought it would be a shame if he left in January and he just left [without a goodbye]."
