Arsenal may have given up too easily on one European prospect after he has ballooned his transfer value playing abroad

Former Arsenal striker Mika Biereth continues to show his old club what they're missing since his budget departure from the club. So much so that the Denmark international is now worth at least four times what the Gunners sold him for in 2024.

Less than two years ago, Biereth was still on the books in north London and attempting to gain a foothold under Mikel Arteta. Fast forward to today and the striker is impressing for Monaco, having enjoyed the highest-scoring season of his career to date last term.

After coming through Fulham's academy, Biereth first joined Arsenal in 2021 and spent thee years with the Gunners. He was eventually sold to Austrian outfit Sturm Graz for £4million in 2024 but the Gunners may have jumped a tad early in moving the player on.

The forward recorded 23 goals and nine assists in 47 games for Sturm Graz (initially on loan), he was sold again in January 2025. That's after Monaco completed a deal potentially worth £12m to acquire his signature.

In less than 12 months, the England-born talent had tripled his transfer price-tag. And according to his latest Transfermarkt valuation, the 23-year-old's stock is heading nowhere but up as he's now believed to be worth closer to £16m.

Biereth has completely transformed his career and future prospects in only a couple of seasons. Not that the change in limelight appears to have made the frontman any less humble.

"When you're in the Arsenal first team and walking around London, a lot of people are too starstruck to approach the players," he told Flashscore in 2024. "There are few fans who have the courage to do that.

"In Graz, everyone just loves football and the first team and they come up to you all the time. I have no problem at all with fans coming up to me."

Biereth has experienced a drop-off in front of goal so far this season, converting just five times from 36 games in all competitions for Monaco. That's resulted in a sharp decline in starting minutes for Les Monegasques since January.

As fate would have it, another Arsenal alumnus has taken over Monaco's goal burden in his stead. And United States international Folarin Balogun may save the club's season after netting in each of his last five consecutive league appearances.

Few could have predicted just how swiftly Biereth would rise up the European ranks following his Arsenal departure. And he may even have a hand to play in Denmark's World Cup campaign if they pull through their play-off final against the Czech Republic on Tuesday.

Arsenal, meanwhile, appear content with Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz as their striker options. And Arteta is unlikely to feel much regret over Biereth's departure as he eyes the chance to finish this season with a trophy treble.
