Advancements in the internet can lead to crazy things, and AC Milan experienced this themselves with a Futuro signing.
The internet has had a big impact on football in several ways. From a consuming point, there is now the chance to read things about the sport digitally, watch it digitally, or even contact your favourite players via social media.
However, it is also a tool that can greatly aid clubs. Scouting can be done online – of course, traditional methods must be used too – whilst metrics and other data can be found in several places. In other words, what you are looking for is probably available.
Google to find a club?
It is not just a one-way street, though, as Nicolo Turco revealed in an interview recently. The 21-year-old joined the Rossoneri on loan last season, playing 20 times for the Futuro, and he revealed that the move was aided by the internet, as he told Mundialito Podcast, via Milan Press.
“It all started with the fact that I wanted to leave Red Bull (Salzburg, ed.), so we were looking for a team to bring me back to Italy. AC Milan came up: the crazy thing is that I found out about it on Google, and so did my agent.
“One day, a friend of mine sent me a post from Milan Futuro, where it said that Ibrahimovic and Moncada were working for me. I contacted my agent and asked, ‘Listen, has anyone written to you?’ The answer was no, maybe it’s a hoax. He checked, and there was interest. It was a year, aside from the relegation episode, that did me good, a positive one.
“After a year in Austria, I returned to Juventus. In terms of serenity, I had a lot of fun. I didn’t play a huge amount, 25 appearances and half as a starter, but I really enjoyed myself. I got along great with the group.”
