Substitutes rescue lacklustre effort: Player ratings for Fiorentina-Milan from Italian papers

AC Milan had to make do with a draw for the second time in four days, with another late equaliser needed against Fiorentina just like against Genoa.

Milan created some big chances to score in the first half, but Christian Pulisic was not his usual clinical self. As football often goes, Fiorentina were the one who got themselves ahead in the second half as Pietro Comuzzo headed in a corner.

It appeared that the unbeaten run was done after 18 games, but then Christopher Nkunku popped up in the final minute to fire in an assist from fellow substitute Youssouf Fofana. The home side rattled the bar in the dying seconds, but a 1-1 draw was the final result.

Fiorentina 1-1 Milan: Paper ratings

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dell Sport has their ratings. Milan’s overall performance got a 5.5 out of 10, as did Massimiliano Allegri’s choices, with the decision to make six changes from the last game not yielding the desired outcome.

The best performer in their eyes was Nkunku after his bright spell off the bench, and he got a 7. The worst player was Pervis Estupinan, who was given a 5 having failed to take advantage of a rare start.

There were a few others who got a 5 too: Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ardon Jashari, Davide Bartesaghi and Pulisic were all below requirements. Koni De Winter got a 5.5, meanwhile.

Matteo Gabbia, Samuele Ricci and Niclas Füllkrug got a passing score of 6. Strahinja Pavlovic, Alexis Saelemaekers and Fofana were given a 6.5, and Mike Maignan matched Nkunku on a 7.

Tuttosport meanwhile also gave Nkunku a 7 for producing the moment that got a draw. Maignan and Saelemaekers were the only others to get praise, with a 6.5 going to the Frenchman and the Belgian.

Bartesaghi was the one at fault for the goal in their eyes, so got a 5, as did the man he replaced, Estupinan. De Winter, Pavlovic, Lotus-Cheek, Jashari and Pulisic all got a 5.5.
