Switzerland coach praises Jashari and references De Ketelaere: “Not worried”

There are a few worries among AC Milan fans that Ardon Jashari may be the latest Charles De Ketelaere. However, there is confidence that this will not be the case.

Signing a player from the Belgian league is completely different to signing one from Serie A, for example. There is going to be a period of acclimatising, and there is little knowledge about how he holds up against a higher level of opposition.

Of course, there can be brief glimpses seen from his performances in the Champions League and on the international stage. However, it is still not really enough to bring complete confidence for some.

Jashari praise

That feeling is likely a hangover from Milan’s last big-money move from Club Brugge, when De Ketelaere made the move. Of course, it is well documented how that fared. A more frustrating situation due to his success in Bergamo since.

For Murat Yakin, the Swiss National Team head coach, this will not be an issue, though. Today, he spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan Press) about Jashari.

“De Ketelaere effect? I’m not worried at all. At just 19, Jashari was captain at Lucerne, and in his first year away from Switzerland, he convinced everyone, even in the Champions League. He has the personality and mentality to do well at San Siro and become a top player.

“Modric? For a young player like Ardon, having a champion of Luka’s calibre in the team is a great privilege. He’ll help him and the others not only on the pitch, but also off it, in the locker room.”
