AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare has provided a positive update on Mike Maignan’s future, confirming that he wishes to remain at the club.
Milan need to bounce back after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Genoa at San Siro, one that they only got something from due to a 92nd-minute equaliser from Rafael Leao and a missed penalty from the away side in the 99th minute.
Inter are now three points clear at the top of the table but play Napoli later tonight, adding to the pressure to get back to winning ways. Massimiliano Allegri has chosen to make six changes amid a tight schedule, with the likes of Niclas Füllkrug, Pervis Estupinan, Samuele Ricci and Ardon Jashari getting the nod.
Maignan ‘wants to stay’
Tare spoke to DAZN in the build-up to kick-off at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, and he addressed a number of questions about the planning for the future. His words were relayed by MilanNews.
Halfway through the season, did you expect this? Can we even talk about winning the Scudetto?
“The standings say this: we’re in a positive moment. We had a good first half of the season with some significant results. There’s a lot to improve on, but we’re confident: from now until the end, we need to make as few mistakes as possible.”

What can you tell us about Maignan’s renewal?
“My relationship with Mike is extraordinary, he likes the Milan project. He wants to stay, but until we get the green light, we’ll have to wait a bit longer. I’m confident that common sense will eventually find the right path, he would be an important asset for this team and its future.”
Today is Jashari first league start…
“He’s a player we have high expectations for. Last season, he showed some important performances and games. He had this accident at the start of the season that caused him to miss four months.
“He’s been doing very well for the past two months, has recovered, and has played two games in the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa, proving he can thrive at a club like AC Milan. So, we’re looking forward with confidence. He’ll be an important player for Milan’s future.”
Nkunku is back. Will he stay at Milan?
“He is a Milan player and we are happy that he is still a Milan player.”
