AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare has not ruled out the idea of some winter signings, while comments on Santiago Gimenez’s situation.

Milan are looking to bounce back after a 2-2 draw on Friday against a Pisa side who were in bottom place in the standings going into the game. The beauty of this rare midweek round in Serie A is that a few days later – with the fire hopefully still burning – they can try to put things right.

Massimiliano Allegri made just one change to the starting line-up compared to the team that drew at San Siro, with Fikayo Tomori coming back into the rearguard. Elsewhere a lot of the choices are obligatory, given that there are still multiple injuries.

Moments before kick-off, Igli Tare faced the DAZN cameras to discuss various aspects of the team, from Gimenez’s struggles to the small squad size. MilanNews relayed his comments.

There’s a great atmosphere around the team, with the fans behind them. Is that thanks to Allegri and the club?

“Absolutely, we’ve embarked on this new journey with great enthusiasm. People are following us, we’re experiencing a positive moment, and we need to be mindful of how we can continue this momentum.”

Is there the availability to intervene in January from a numbers point of view?

“It wasn’t expected that six players would get injured during an international break; it’s not an everyday occurrence. When these moments happen, we have to be aware that we’re a strong team, and the boys have proven it on the pitch. We need to keep going until the beginning of December, then evaluate the future with the coach.”

Why isn’t Gimenez still being talked about in relation to the upcoming window? What does he need to do?

“Staying calm is part of every striker’s journey. I know what it’s like, I’ve played in the same position. He has the trust of everyone: the club, the coach, but above all, his team-mates and the team. Tonight he has a great chance to prove he’s a great striker.”

How many goals do you expect from him?

“He’s always scored, and wherever he’s played, he’s always scored double figures. So, he’s having a tough time, but at the same time, he’s doing a great job for the team on the pitch, and for that, the coach is rewarding him for having his back.”
