Igli Tare spoke to the media ahead of AC Milan’s league opener against Cremonese and, among other things, he commented on the Victor Boniface situation.
Milan need to start their season with a win today as, on paper, they are big favourites against the newly-promoted Cremonese. Max Allegri has named a strong starting XI for the game, including Luka Modric, and a lot is expected from the Rossoneri.
Interviewed by DAZN just a few minutes ago, as transcribed by MilanNews, Tare wasn’t really asked about the game but above all the Boniface situation. As explained by the director, Milan are taking their time with the decision.
What’s up with Boniface?
“There were no additional medical checks. We were aware of the past issues, and we’re evaluating the player’s health thoroughly. His qualities are unquestionable. We’re trying to make the right decision for this situation.”
Will you be making it soon?
“Of course, the transfer window ends soon (laughs). We’ll discuss it with the coach soon and make a final decision. Deadline? We’re not putting pressure on ourselves; at most, we’ll put it on others.”
Are you satisfied with the transfers?
“You were right to ask me this question. Behind all this work done over the past three months is a crucial group. Along with Furlani, Ibra, Moncada, and Allegri himself, who, with his staff, has done an exceptional job. It’s been a fantastic job by this entire group: everyone has an important role.”
Should we expect more sales, like Musah and Chukwueze?
“We’re evaluating all these situations. By playing one match a week with Max, we’re evaluating the best course of action. We definitely want to create a fantastic, strong group, a determined team. This club and this stadium deserve it.”
How do you feel?
“I’m very excited, like everyone who has worn this jersey. Working for this club is a dream come true for me. At the same time, I know what it means to work, so I have great humility, desire, and determination. The history of this club teaches you that victories are what matter.”
Did Allegri ask you for a centre-back?
“No”.
The in-depth medical tests gave Milan a better picture of the condition of Boniface’s right knee, amid a previous ACL tear. It’s even been suggested that the Rossoneri and Leverkusen could renegotiate the terms of the loan, now that all the cards are on the table.
