AC Milan’s sporting director Igli Tare has claimed Mike Maignan is happy at the club, while he admitted there is a possibility that a striker arrives in January.
Milan are seeking another three points to ensure they keep top spot for another weekend, but it will not be straightforward against a Sassuolo side that have done well since returning to the top flight.
Massimiliano Allegri has made one change to the starting line-up from the team that came from two goals down to beat Torino on Monday night, with Rafael Leao missing out due to injury.
Tare spoke to DAZN not long before kick-off and he answered questions about a number of topics, from Mike Maignan’s renewal to a potential January signing, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
Compared to the first matchday, Milan are transformed…
“We started with a fantastic group. Every day we get to work together – as we said before with Max – it’s one of the best groups we’ve ever had.
“It’s a group that’s eager, that follows you, that’s determined, and that translates into results on the pitch. We still have a lot to do and we need to maintain consistency. For now, we’re all happy.”

On Maignan’s contract renewal, is it true he asked for €8m?
“We’ve never talked about numbers; I’ve never heard those numbers. Talking about Mike is easy: he’s an extraordinary guy, a leader, a team player. We’re happy.
“He likes being at Milan, and Milan likes it if Mike renews. We’re talking, but there’s an important match today, and we hope to win. We’ll have a chance to talk about this later, too.”
Are we ruling out the possibility that Milan will move for a striker in January?
“The January transfer window is very difficult to find players who can change things. We’ll be vigilant, however, and see if there’s anything that can improve the team’s situation. However, for now, the team is improving; Nkunku himself showed some important signs in the second half in Turin.
“Today is a great opportunity for him to show the real Nkunku we’ve all been waiting for. Gimenez has this physical problem, and we’re waiting for him. He’s also important for this team.”
