This afternoon, AC Milan pulled out of a deal to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta, due to a few reasons. However, the Frenchman will now head to surgery.
It has certainly been an interesting saga with Mateta, and the striker seemed almost guaranteed to be heading to San Siro at one point. Once again, the medical, though, was the issue, just as it was for Victor Boniface in the summer.
Last night, it was reported that further checks were required, and after the Milan representative saw the situation, the deal was called off soon after.
Yet, it was seemingly not that simple.
Surgery for Mateta
Now, with the dust clearing a little, Sacha Tavolieri has provided an update on what went wrong, via his X account.
“In addition to issues related to agents’ commissions, there was indeed also a physical problem. The Frenchman will need knee surgery to fully recover and would be out for 3 to 4 months.”
The agent issues seemed to be too much, and did play a factor. However, it was indeed a knee problem which seemingly killed the move. In fact, considering he will now have surgery for the injury – which keeps him out for several months – Milan may have made the right call.
