Tensions boil over after Supercoppa clash as Napoli accuse Allegri – what happened

1 hour ago 19

Napoli have published a bizarre statement hitting out at Massimiliano Allegri, accusing him of insulting one of their staff members.

Milan’s Supercoppa Italiana defence did not go to plan as they lost 2-0 to Napoli in last night’s semi-final in Saudi Arabia, with David Neres and Rasmus Hojlund getting the goals. After the full-time whistle, it seems that tensions boiled over.

On the sidelines, it was spotted that heated words were exchanged between the two technical areas, and there was not the customary post-match handshake between Allegri and his opposite number Antonio Conte either.

A statement on Napoli’s official website reads as follows: “SSC Napoli firmly condemns the behaviour of AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri, who, during the Italian Super Cup semifinal, in the presence of dozens of people pitchside and on live television, repeatedly and severely insulted Gabriele Oriali with offensive language.

“We hope this completely out of control attack does not go unnoticed, especially since, with 33 cameras involved in the event’s production, it is impossible not to witness what happened.”

The reconstruction

As MilanNews report, it all stemmed from Rabiot’s harsh foul on Politano, an incident that sparked protests from the benches and increased tension. During that, Oriali approached the fourth official and – after laughing in Allegri’s face, provoking him – said that the Milan coach was ‘going too far’.

This attitude further heightened tensions, but was completely ignored in Napoli’s statement. After those provocations, Allegri went to tell Oriali what later emerged from the footage regarding the foul, with some strong words used.

Reducing everything to an ‘out of control’ Allegri is a simple deflection tactic as per the report, but it’s far from the truth. In Riyadh, there wasn’t a single culprit as tensions built minute by minute.
