AC Milan’s latest signing Pietro Terracciano has revealed that he just couldn’t say no when the opportunity arose to make the move.
With Marco Sportiello having returned to Atalanta, Milan moved quickly to bring in a replacement in the form of Terracciano, another veteran with over a decade of experience to his name in Italian football.
The 35-year-old joins from Fiorentina on what is believed to be a free transfer. He may have only played a few times last season but – before the arrival of David De Gea – Terracciano was the established starter for La Viola.
Now, he arrives to be a back-up once again, but his experience can certainly help pass on wisdom to the many young goalkeepers at the club. Terracciano gave his first official interview to Milan TV shortly after joining and he shed some light on his emotions after sealing the switch.
What was your reaction when Milan called?
“It all happened very quickly; we were able to finalise the deal in just a few days. My initial feelings were one of happiness, because when such a glorious club calls you, you just have to say yes. It was easy for me to accept AC Milan’s offer, and I’m truly happy and proud.”
What is your immediate focus?
“First of all, getting to know my new teammates and the entire staff. I can’t wait to get started. Seeing my jersey has a certain effect, it makes me think of all the sacrifices I’ve made over the years, and so I’m really proud.”

What are your ambitions?
“Milan must already have ambition within itself. When you represent such a big club, you can’t help but have ambition. I hope to integrate immediately and be able to help out on the pitch and in the dressing room.”
You’ll be working with Mike Maignan…
“It’s a great pleasure. He’s a fantastic goalkeeper. I’ve played against him a few times, and every time Milan won, thanks in part to his saves. It’ll be a huge pleasure to see him, and I’m curious to get to know him. I can’t wait to get started.”
How do you approach your daily work?
“I’m someone who always works very hard, very focused. I’m a very cool and calm person by nature, so I try to bring this calmness into training and matches.”
Have you already thought about playing at San Siro?
“It definitely has an impact just thinking about it. I played against AC Milan at San Siro and it’s always a great feeling. It will be even greater to play with the fans by my side.”
Finally, a message to the fans…
“I’ll give everything for this shirt. I hope, and my teammates certainly hope so too, that I can make them proud of us. We need them.”
