‘The time has come to stop’ – Gimenez states he has been playing injured ‘for months’

Santiago Gimenez has revealed some information about his physical condition in a post on his Instagram profile.

Simply put, it has not been the best of starts for Gimenez at Milan. Having signed from Feyenoord in the winter transfer window, he joined a dysfunctional side under Sergio Conceicao and struggled to nail down a starting spot, while he is still without a league goal this season, despite many big chances.

In a recent interview, Gimenez’s father Christian confirmed that his son had sustained an ankle knock in the draw against Atalanta, which forced him off. He missed the Roma game, but now the Mexican striker has suggested there is something more to it.

Time for a break

He posted on his Instagram profile to update fans on his condition, and he claimed that he has actually been playing with an injury for months now.

“For several months I’ve been playing with an ankle injury that hasn’t allowed me to be 100% fit or comfortable on the pitch,” he said.

“With determination, I continued to help the team and I continued to play, but the pain increased: the time has come to stop. Now I must focus on recovery and prepare to be back with you as soon as possible. God is in control. Thank you for your support, see you soon!”
