Thiaw reveals what Allegri and Tonali told him before move to ‘cute’ Newcastle

Malick Thiaw’s departure from AC Milan in the summer is one that is still heavily debated. Although he had ups and downs, the Rossoneri could have used him this season.

The move from Thiaw to Koni De Winter and David Odogu is still widely questioned. Many feel that Milan ‘lost’ in the deal, even though they brought in two names. However, Odogu has been left in the shadows whilst De Winter has played occasionally.

With the money generated by Thiaw’s sale, perhaps a first-team defender could have arrived. Considering how strong the defence looks now, though, maybe this would have been a waste. There are many ways of viewing the situation.

Since leaving, the German has become a favourite in the North East, potentially deepening those doubts from Milanisti.

Leaving Milan

Last night, Pianeta Milan spoke to him, and his words about the move have been relayed by Football Italia.

“I decided to go to Newcastle and I am happy with that, Milan are a big club, so it was difficult, but in my view it was the right moment to try something new. So I listened to the proposal from Newcastle and in the end I said yes.

“No, I didn’t speak to him [Sandro Tonali] when I was in Milan. When I arrived in England, he explained Newcastle is a big city, the team is big, ok, not like Milan, but… it’s cute, and the fans are incredible.

“It’s hard to say which fans are more passionate, I mean, the Milan fans are incredible.

“Yes, I had three good years at Milan, but in the end, I didn’t really play that much. Allegri told me that I would’ve had a chance this season, but I wanted to try something different.”

How Milan are faring…

“I am not surprised [they are doing well], because Pavlovic, Gabbia and Tomori are good players with a lot of experience, and well-suited to a coach like Allegri. I saw a few Milan games this season, and they defend very well.

“I hope [they can win the Scudetto], I really hope so. I did it with Tomori about two years ago, and we hope to repeat it. Forza Milan!”
