Thierry Henry reckons Mohamed Salah should be playing centrally off a striker, with the former Arsenal forward believing his struggles this season stem from a physical regression.

It has already been confirmed that Salah will depart Anfield with the Egyptian's storied nine-year run with Liverpool set to come to a close at the end of the season. Having fired the Reds to the Premier League last term, Salah's performances this season have regressed significantly.

While the 33-year-old scored 34 goals in 52 appearances last season, 29 of which were in the Premier League, he has found the back of the net just 10 times in 35 games this term.

During Liverpool's run to the Premier League title last season, Salah's contract situation dominated the headlines. In the end, he signed a two-year deal with the Reds, ending his contract standoff with Liverpool.

However, with him now set to leave at the end of this season, the posturing over a new contract last season was all for naught.

Speaking on CBS Sports prior to Liverpool's clash with PSG in the Champions League, Henry explained that while it does not matter much since Salah will be leaving Anfield, he believes the Egyptian would be much better suited to playing centrally, rather than on the right wing.

"I'm just saying the numbers are not the same," said Henry, adding, "So therefore, last year, he could maybe make Liverpool draw. Or when it was a 2-2, suddenly he makes it 3-2, he makes it 4-2.

"He gives an assist, so he gives a goal. But that's not happening at the moment for him.

"And as a winger, it's very difficult. If you come at one point, when you start to get older, I think you should be behind the striker.

"And more inside. So you run a bit less, and you play more with your brain, and you try to set people up and play a different type of game.

Henry continued, "But at one point, I played as a winger. When your legs are not the same anymore, and you have to go up and down, and the ball doesn't arrive to you, and you don't have Trent [Alexander-Arnold] that was making that run for you inside, or can occupy people, because people were occupying, you know what, Trent is here.

"So he was often left in 1v1, because Trent was making that run or whatever. They were scared of his cross, or crosses, shall I say. It becomes a bit more difficult.

"And by the way, it happens to everyone at one point, things are not working for you anymore. You know, we're talking about Mo Salah, one of the greatest."
