Alexis Saelemaekers’ positive start to the season has continued on international duty, as he racked up three assists with Belgium.
Saelemaekers was one of 12 Milan players that left Milanello in order to go and represent their national teams, with the majority being involved in World Cup qualifiers around Europe.
On Thursday evening, the wing-back played and made his mark in Belgium’s win over Liechtenstein. At the Rheinpark Stadion in Vaduz, the Red Devils dominated and won 6-0 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, climbing to third place in the group with seven points.
Saelemaekers came on after the hour mark and provided a beautiful back-heel assist in injury time for teammate Malick Fofana’s goal. He also had an 82% pass completion rate and three touches in the opponent’s penalty area, in a more advanced role.
Saelemaekers then came on for the last half-hour of another 6-0 win last night, this time over Kazakhstan in Anderlecht. He certainly made a mark, registering two assists.
The first one for Kevin De Bruyne was a lovely ball that the Napoli midfielder despatched, and then the second was more of a lay-off to Thomas Meunier. Two substitute appearances and three goal contributions is certainly very positive.
