AC Milan are working on the signing of a new striker and there are a couple of options being explored at present, a report claims.

In a behind closed doors press conference given to journalists late last month, Igli Tare confirmed what the plan is for the No.9 role. The desire is to sign another striker, given the departures of Luka Jovic and Tammy Abraham, plus the imminent one of Francesco Camarda.

“As for the centre forward, we are looking for another player to compete with Gimenez, who I consider an excellent player but who has had a normal Italian impact, of settling in, from a very different football like Dutch football,” he said.

“[…] We are taking the necessary time to understand what shape the team will take but we have clear ideas about what type of player he will be, with the characteristics of a true centre-forward who can make the difference inside the area: this has been missing since Giroud’s farewell.”

Lucca and Retegui targeted

According to TMW, Igli Tare and the Milan directors are looking for a centre-forward with different characteristics compared to Santiago Gimenez. The first choice is Capocannoniere winner Mateo Retegui, but Atalanta’s asking price is over €50m.

In addition, in recent days Al Qadsiah have pushed hard to sign the Italian, and they would have no big problems in satisfying the needs of the Bergamo club financially. However, Milan are not giving up while waiting to understand if there could be room for a possible attempt.

Given the difficulties in a signing of this kind, the Rossoneri immediately got to work looking for an alternative. One profile that they really like is Lorenzo Lucca. The negotiation with Napoli has not yet been finalised and for this reason Milan is evaluating the possibility of trying to hijack it.
