‘To emulate Bartesaghi’ – Oddo and Ossola react after Milan Futuro beat Real Calepina

Massimo Oddo and Lorenzo Ossola were in high spirits after Milan Futuro recorded a big win against Real Calepina.

After back-to-back defeats, the Futuro got themselves back to winning ways thanks to a lovely goal from Ossola, beating Calepino 1-0 on Wednesday. Losses against Villa Valle and Sondrio had certainly dampened spirits a little bit, but they bounced back well to move back into the play-off spots.

The head coach Oddo spoke to Milan TV after the game and gave his instant reaction to the way that his side played.

“There’s always work to be done because they’re young, because they need to grow. We still make a lot of mistakes, we’re naive, and we need to improve in terms of personality, game management, and chances.

“What we’ve improved compared to the last few games is a bit of grit, grit, and determination, which are the things we’re lacking right now. We’re focusing on the team and less on the individual, because the skills are there and must be supported by the mental qualities that allow you to grow at your best.

“We still need to give more, do better, and this is a team that would have the ability to finish games better.”

On following Bartesaghi’s example: “These guys need to play, to get their legs under them, to make mistakes to grow and improve. Fundamentally, our victories are these: those of Bartesaghi, a guy who was here with us last year.

“I gave this example to the guys, telling them: ‘Your biggest goal isn’t to win today, but to grow today to try to win a game’. But the big goal is to emulate Bartesaghi, who followed their path, played with them, and today finds himself in the first team starting a derby.’ This is the example for these guys and the victory for AC Milan’s youth academy.”

The match-winner Ossola also spoke to the club’s official channel. The 18-year-old has emerged as one of the stars of the early season, with four goals and four assists in 11 games for the Primavera earning him a call-up to the Futuro, with whom he scored his first goal yesterday.

“We’re making progress in every way. It wasn’t an easy match because we’d been coming off two games where we failed to get what we deserved. When I’m called upon for Milan Futuro, I always try to give my best.

“The team helped me with this, even though it was the first time I’d started in the league. I was able to repay them with a goal and a team victory. I try to support the team. I think it’s the work we’re doing as a team that really brings out the individual players, both in the Primavera and Milan Futuro.

“For me, there’s no difference. Whatever category I play in, I always try to give my best, and the team helps me with that.”

On having older players in the group: “It’s really stimulating because you get to compete with players who are maybe 10 years older than you. Even in the team, you’re lucky to have people like Simone Branca or Andrea Magrassi who can help you grow faster, both in the locker room and on the pitch.”
