Tomori reveals what Allegri told Milan players during the break: “We worked hard”

Fikayo Tomori spoke to the media ahead of Milan-Bologna and revealed what Max Allegri told the players during the international break.

Milan had some extra time on the training ground, albeit not with a full squad, and Allegri made sure to work on the defence. As he also highlighted in his pre-match press conference, one of the Rossoneri’s main issues has been conceding goals that could have been easily avoided.

Tomori is one of the players who will have to step up, since he plays at the back, but a collective effort is also needed. Speaking to DAZN ahead of tonight’s game, as transcribed by MilanNews, the centre-back shared his thoughts on the formation and Allegri’s words.

A three-man defence that can turn into a four-man defence. What are your thoughts?

“It’s a new system for us. We’re more of a five-man defence, and in possession we’re playing 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1. We want to continue the good work we did in Lecce.”

Are you finding defensive tranquillity?

“We worked hard even during the break. The coach wants us to be more relaxed and defend more as a team. We kept a clean sheet in Lecce and we want to continue that today. Bologna are a tough team but we also have quality, and we want to prove that last season is in the past.”

The Englishman is playing alongside Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic once again, even if some suggested that Koni De Winter could get the chance. Either way, along with the rest of the starting XI, Tomori will have to step it up tonight.
