Lorenzo Torriani has admitted that he dreams of one day being able to start a derby for AC Milan, while reflecting on his growth to now.
Torriani’s rise through the Milan youth sector has understandably made him dream about the biggest nights. He got a taste of one last season, coming on against Liverpool in the Champions League after Mike Maignan went off with an injury in an eventual 3-1 loss.
After another preseason spent with the first team, the idea of starting a derby isn’t too far-fetched, especially with Maignan’s deal expiring and the possibility that Milan could opt for an internal promotion to the No.1 spot. For now, however, Torriani’s path remains the subject of mystery.
‘One of my biggest dreams’
Torriani was present at the Gran Galà 3rd Italo Galbiati Trophy – organised by Cimiano Calcio of Milan – last night, and he was interviewed by Sky. His comments are via MilanNews.
Do you dream of playing in a derby?
“Certainly for me, being Milanese and having come through the entire youth sector at AC Milan, it’s one of my biggest dreams to play in a derby.”
Do you remember any derbies from the past?
“I have vague memories; I was really young. But there were some distinctive ones, like last year’s, where I was even on the bench. It was exciting.”

What is it like working with Maignan?
“He’s a great goalkeeper, but before the goalkeeper comes the person: he’s a great professional, he’s the first to arrive and the last to leave. He’s very focused on his goals, and he’s helping me be more consistent in training.”
Who’s your goalkeeping role model? Maignan is easy to say…
“I’d say Courtois. He’s doing extraordinary things with Real Madrid. He’s improved a lot over time.”
Your Champions League debut against Liverpool, what emotions do you carry with you from that night?
“The final hug with Alisson… I came on, I conceded the goal straight away. He reassured me, it was emotional. I’ve always seen him on TV, so seeing him up close was fantastic.”
