Tottenham and Newcastle see £43m offers rejected for Barcelona star

Tottenham Hotspur made an audacious offer to sign a Barcelona forward, but the Lilywhites’ bid has been sent back by the Catalan giants.

During the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, Thomas Frank hinted that Tottenham are not done adding to their forward line this summer.

Some big-name forwards have been mooted as targets for Spurs over recent days, and it has now emerged that the Lilywhites have turned their attention to a familiar name.

It was reported that Tottenham failed with a move for Ferran Torres back in January, and the North Londoners have seemingly made another attempt to secure the former Man City star this summer.

Barcelona reject Tottenham’s offer for Ferran Torres

This update comes from Fichajes and claims that both Spurs and Newcastle made the same offers for Torres.

The outlet states that the Premier League duo put €50m (£43m) on the table for the 25-year-old, but Barca decided to turn those down.

This is because the Spain international’s improved showing in the second half of last season has seen him earn the trust of manager Hansi Flick.

However, the report adds that Torres retains admirers in the Premier League, with Aston Villa also eyeing the player alongside Spurs and the Magpies.

Barcelona and Torres’ transfer stance revealed

Fichajes say that despite the ‘financial temptation’ of Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle’s offers, the Catalan side have decided to keep hold of the forward.

This is because they do not want to create unrest in the squad with needless departures, with Flick wanting stability ahead of the new season.

Additionally, Torres himself has made it clear that he wants to stay, with the former Man City man even ready to extend his contract at Camp Nou.
