Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on an experienced number six, but they will have to battle two of the biggest clubs in the Premier League to land the player in January.
The Joao Palhinha-Rodrigo Bentancur partnership has been the subject of much debate among Spurs fans this season, with many feeling that it leaves the team short of creativity.
However, Thomas Frank has maintained that he likes Tottenham’s midfield balance when the experienced pair play together, with the Dane continuing to leave Pape Sarr out of the team.
Over recent days, we have heard reports that Spurs are preparing an offer for a Danish number six in January, but the Lilywhites have just learned that they may face an uphill task to land the player.

Tottenham in three-horse race for Sporting Lisbon star Morten Hjulmand
The player in question is Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand, with Football Insider becoming the latest outlet to credit Tottenham with an interest in the 26-year-old.
The outlet reveals that although Hjulmand has a release clause of £70m in his contract, Sporting would be prepared to sell him for around £50m in January.
However, Tottenham Hotspur face competition from both Man United and Man City for the Denmark international, with both Manchester clubs said to be big fans of the player.
Spurs are not the front-runners to land Morten Hjulmand
Football Insider say that the presence of Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford will likely give United the advantage in the race for the Sporting man.
Amorim worked with the midfielder at the Portuguese club ahead of his move to United, and he was the one who signed the player from Lecce back in 2023.
However, the outlet adds that Hjulmand is not the only number six on Man United’s radar, with the club also monitoring the likes of Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Elliot Anderson.
