Tottenham could land 28-year-old midfielder for cut-price £17.5m fee in January

Tottenham are battling two Premier League clubs for an experienced midfielder, and it has emerged that the player is available on the cheap in January.

Over the last few weeks, several central midfielders have also been mooted as targets for the Lilywhites.

A few days ago, it was suggested that Tottenham are looking to offer a 28-year-old midfielder a route back to the Premier League.

That update comes from Fichajes, who claimed that Spurs are battling Man United and Newcastle for the signature of Ruben Neves, who is thought to be keen on an exit from Al-Hilal.

How much would Tottenham have to pay for Ruben Neves?

It has now been reported by CaughtOffside that Neves is keen on returning to the English top-flight when the transfer window reopens.

The outlet also suggests that it is a three-horse race between Spurs, the Red Devils and the Magpies for the Portugal international.

It is revealed that since Neves is nearing the end of his contract, he can be signed for just €20m (£17.5m) when the transfer window reopens.

This has piqued the interest of the three Premier League sides, who have already made contact with the former Wolves man about a January move.

One roadblock for Spurs in their pursuit of Neves

CaughtOffside say that even though the midfielder is available on a discount, the deal will be expensive for Premier League sides.

This is because Neves’ current deal with Al Hilal is worth £410,000-a-week, which could be a stumbling block for most European clubs.

While it is not revealed if the 28-year-old is demanding that the salary be matched, the report concludes that Turkey is the most likely destination for the player, with Galatasaray and Fenerbahce circling over him.
