Tottenham could replace Cristian Romero with Argentina teammate without spending a penny

Tottenham could have one big rival in the race to sign Marcos Senesi on a free this summer, but they need to stay up first.

With Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven facing uncertain futures at Tottenham this summer, several centre-backs have been mooted as potential transfer targets for the Lilywhites ahead of the summer.

The man who has been most heavily linked with a move to N17 is Marcos Senesi, who Spurs are looking to land on a free transfer as the player’s current deal at the Vitality Stadium runs out in June.

In fact, it has emerged over recent days that Tottenham are in close contact with the Bournemouth defender’s representatives regarding a summer switch to N17.

Tottenham and Man United could battle it out for Marcos Senesi’s signature

A new report in talkSPORT has now backed up what we have heard from a few other sources by stating that the centre-back informed the Cherries around the turn of the year that he will not be signing a new deal.

The report says that Tottenham Hotspur and Man United have both expressed their interest in the 28-year-old, with Spurs said to be keen on landing a centre-back irrespective of whether Romero or Van de Ven depart.

It is made clear that any move for Senesi would be contingent on the Lilywhites staying up, as the Argentine has no intention of dropping down to the Championship.

Additionally, it is asserted that the centre-back is hoping to agree terms with a new club before the end of the season.

Two clubs drop out of Senesi transfer race with Spurs

It was reported by CaughtOffside last week that Liverpool and Chelsea are ready to challenge Tottenham for Senesi, and that the Reds and the Blues had already reached out to the defender’s entourage.

However, this latest update from talkSPORT dismisses that, claiming that Liverpool have not made advances towards the Bournemouth man, while Chelsea are prioritising other alternatives.

The publication does add that Senesi is also being tracked by Serie A clubs such as Juventus, while there was some initial interest from Atletico Madrid.
