Tottenham have Andy Robertson plan for the summer, but it may still cost them £5m

A new report has shed light on whether Tottenham Hotspur will try again for Andy Robertson or move on to other targets after missing out on the Liverpool star during the January transfer window.

A couple of weeks ago, all signs suggested Robertson was set for a move to Tottenham, but the deal fell through.

According to reports, Liverpool blocked the 31-year-old’s switch to Tottenham after being unable to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at AS Roma.

A few days ago, it emerged that Liverpool are considering offering the Spurs target a new contract, which may come as bad news for the Lilywhites.

Tottenham will return for Andy Robertson in the summer

The Athletic have now revealed in their transfer dealsheet that the Scotland international ‘will likely still be a target’ for Spurs in the summer and add that ‘Spurs may revisit’ a deal for the left-back.

GiveMeSport have relayed this information and revealed that their own sources have also backed the North Londoners to make another move for Robertson.

The outlet also suggests that the Reds may offer the full-back a contract extension, but that is more to ensure that they get a fee for him rather than for the experienced defender to stay.

The publication adds that Tottenham may still have to end up paying £5m for Robertson if he signs a new contract at Anfield.

Why Robertson signing a new contract may not be bad news for Spurs

Last week, journalist Pete O’Rourke warned Tottenham that a deal for the Liverpool man may not be easy to complete in the summer.

O’Rourke said several clubs from across Europe would want Robertson if he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

One would imagine that paying a transfer fee for the experienced left-back may make him a less attractive option for many clubs from the continent, thus potentially giving the Lilywhites an advantage.
