Tottenham join Chelsea in race for £68m left-back with more goals than Kolo Muani

Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with a left-back who has more goals to his name this season than Randal Kolo Muani.

There could well be a mass exodus at Tottenham Hotspur this summer, given their domestic struggles.

Several Spurs players have been linked with moves away from north London, including Destiny Udogie, who is reportedly on the radar of Manchester City.

Should the Italian depart Spurs, that could leave them severely short at left-back, with Souza and Djed Spence the only recognised options.

Tottenham transfers: Maxi Araujo targeted as Chelsea competition emerges

Sport Witness is now reporting that Tottenham have set their sights on Sporting Lisbon full-back Maxi Araujo.

The left-back has impressed thus far this campaign, managing six goals and four assists from 35 matches. Araujo is also capable of filling in as a wing-back and winger, adding to his appeal as a player.

Spurs are said to have already made contact with the 26-year-old, but there is competition from the Premier League and across Europe.

Spurs face battle with Chelsea for Maxi Araujo deal

Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are also keeping tabs on Araujo, who has a £68 million (€80 million) release clause.

That means Tottenham will have to be on guard if they want to avoid missing out on the full-back, with the Blues also reported to have made contact. There are other English clubs in the picture, but their identity has not been mentioned.

Araujo, for his part, does not appear to be pushing for a new deal with Sporting, which should be good news for Tottenham in their pursuit of his signature.

However, it remains to be seen if Spurs’ recent approach will become a concrete offer.
