Tottenham have turned their attention to Genoa’s Koni De Winter, making an enquiry for the £21m-rated defender as they prepare for life after Cristian Romero.
Tottenham Hotspur are doing everything they can to keep Cristian Romero at Spurs this summer, amidst interest from Atletico Madrid, who are not backing down in their efforts to land the Argentine centre-back.
Atletico are reported to be ready to go all out in their pursuit of Romero, as they prepare to submit another bid for the 27-year-old in the coming weeks.
Daniel Levy, however, is said to have already offered Romero a new contract which is expected to make him the club’s highest earner, but it seems like the Argentine’s heart lies in Spain.

Tottenham enquire about Genoa defender Koni De Winter
Should the World Cup winner depart this summer, Spurs need to secure a replacement for Cristian Romero, who was labelled the best defender in the world by Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister.
It has been well reported that Koni De Winter of Genoa has been lined up as a potential replacement for Romero, following rumours that he could leave this summer.
The Belgian defender has attracted interest not just from Spurs, but also from Crystal Palace and a host of other clubs.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has now dropped a fresh report, claiming that Tottenham have made an enquiry for De Winter, but no bids have been submitted yet.
The Lilywhites are not the only ones to have enquired, as the journalist also states that Inter Milan have spoken to Genoa about De Winter, who could be available for €25m (£21m).
Spurs well placed to sign Koni De Winter if Cristian Romero is sold
It was reported less than a week ago that Tottenham’s interest in De Winter has been long-standing, with the N17 club said to have scouted the Belgian international several times last season.
It was also claimed that Tottenham are now best placed to secure a deal for the 23-year-old centre-back despite interest from elsewhere, both in England and abroad.
If Romero, who is valued at around £60m by Tottenham, is sold, then should Spurs move for Koni De Winter, they could potentially complete a deal for the centre-back for significantly less than the amount Romero would be sold for.
