Tottenham plan to poach Lyon captain for just £26m: Newcastle and Aston Villa want him too

Tottenham Hotspur’s focus on strengthening their midfield continues ahead of the summer window, and now they want Lyon’s captain.

There is no denying that this Tottenham Hotspur side is a young squad with few senior figures, with Cristian Romero, Ben Davies and Guglielmo Vicario among those providing leadership.

Last summer, the club looked to add more know-how, signing Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus, both of whom had Premier League pedigree.

In the winter, Conor Gallagher arrived as another seasoned addition, having played at the top level for several clubs.

Tottenham transfers: Corentin Tolisso targeted in £26m move

Heading into the summer window, there are talks of Tottenham adding more experienced heads to their squad, with Leon Goretzka one who has been linked with Spurs.

Those reports have continued, with Sports Boom now stating that Tottenham are amongst a host of Premier League clubs interested in signing Lyon captain Corentin Tolisso at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old is not just someone who has performed at the highest level for a long time, but is also a midfielder with strong technical and creative abilities.

This season alone, he has already grabbed 11 goals in all competitions, more than any Tottenham player has managed so far.

Spurs could benefit from Corentin Tolisso’s experience and leadership

There is no doubt that adding know-how, alongside goals and creativity, will improve Spurs’ overall game, and that is what they would get with Tolisso.

The midfielder also knows what it takes to compete at the highest level and win trophies, given his time at Bayern Munich and his World Cup win with France.

At present, Tottenham do not have a player with such an impressive trophy cabinet, and signing him would add leadership to the squad.

He is currently Lyon’s captain, and it is claimed he would cost around £26 million (€30 million), although Spurs will have to fend off interest from Newcastle United and Aston Villa, who are also in the race for Tolisso.
