Tottenham players put to shame by £760m reality as Igor Tudor faces sack threat

1 hour ago 5

After Tottenham Hotspur's latest humiliation under Igor Tudor, another painful fact that will hit home for the North Londoners has emerged

Tottenham Hotspur are the 16th best team in the Premier League, despite having the fifth most valuable side in the division. Beleaguered Spurs manager Igor Tudor has a squad of players worth £763million, but each game has represented a new low for the Croatian.

Spurs were hammered 5-2 by Atletico Madrid in their Champions League round of 16 first leg. Tudor, 47, saw the boldest decision of his short reign backfire after 15 minutes.

Antonin Kinsky made two huge mistakes in the Spanish capital, after Tudor dropped Guglielmo Vicario for the 22-year-old Czech. The Spurs interim manager then made things worse for himself and the youngster when he refused to acknowledge him, after substituting him for Vicario after 16 minutes.

Things could not be much worse for Tottenham right now, as they have one foot out of the Champions League and are also teetering on the edge of relegation. All of this has happened despite their squad being worth £763m.

According to BetVictor, only Arsenal (£2.2bn), Liverpool (£1.8bn), Manchester City (£1.1bn) and Chelsea (£1bn) have squads valued higher than Totttenham.

This financial reality only shines a greater light on Tottenham's failures this season. Last year's Europa League triumph ended Tottenham's trophy hoodoo and looked set to be the catalyst for a new beginning.

However, Ange Postecoglou's sacking only resulted in the same issues happening under Thomas Frank, while things have only got worse since Tottenham also dismissed the latter. football.london also understands Tudor has managed to irk many of the current crop of Spurs stars.

Things could get worse for the north Londoners before they get better. An ominous looking away trip to Anfield to face Liverpool waits for them this weekend.

In addition, 18th placed West Ham United are slowly putting results together, only losing to Liverpool and Chelsea in their last six Premier League matches. Seventeenth placed Nottingham Forest have also shown signs of life by securing a surprise 2-2 away draw with Manchester City.

They also have a winnable home clash against Fulham, who have lost to West Ham and been knocked out of the FA Cup by Southampton in their last two games, coming up.

Tottenham will also be without the suspended Micky van de Ven this weekend. Captain Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha may also be unavailable, as both got taken off against Atletico with apparent concussions after clashing heads.
