Tottenham set for £32m windfall as Thomas Frank handed extra Champions League incentive

Tottenham are currently on course to seal a top-eight Champions League finish after beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 on Tuesday evening

Tottenham could be on course to bank a whopping £32million thanks to their Champions League exploits.

Spurs, who have endured huge domestic struggles under Thomas Frank, have dazzled on the continental stage and are currently in line to secure a top-eight finish.

To achieve that, they must beat Eintracht Frankfurt away from home next week in their final league phase fixture.

The Europa League winners did just that last season on the long-winding road to Bilbao and they will also take great confidence from the fact Eintracht are manager-less and already out of the Champions League.

Frank's side will bank a fee of £9.5million alone if they qualify for the knockout stages via the top-eight. They are currently fifth in the standings - only behind Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Liverpool.

If they keep their spot they'd be due a bonus of £7.37million for finishing fifth because each place in the 36-club table is worth £238,000.

Additionally, you also get £16.2million for simply qualifying for the league phase plus £1.8million per win and £608,000 per draw.

At this moment in time, Spurs would net around £32million for wrapping up fifth and then they'd also be due to receive a £9.5million knockout qualification bonus and a winning bonus for beating Frankfurt, if they take care of business in Germany.

The Lewis family pumped in an initial £100million into Spurs in October so the club are certainly not short of cash.

They've already wrapped up the signing of Conor Gallagher with left-back Souza to follow but there's hope Frank will also receive further signings.

A forward is among the topics at the top of Frank's agenda as he looks to ride out the storm and continue as Spurs head coach.

He eased the pressure on his shoulders in midweek when Tottenham ran out 2-0 winners over 10-man Borussia Dortmund.

The Dane will be hoping it's a sliding doors moment where his future is concerned and there are now huge similarities with last season when Spurs excelled in Europe while struggling domestically.

Further cash would also be up for grabs later in the competition, of course. For now, Spurs will focus their efforts on steadying the ship as they prepare to travel to Burnley in the Premier League.

Midfielder Lucas Bergvall has picked up an ankle injury and he is due to undergo further scans to determine how long he could be sidelined for.
