Massimiliano Allegri wants a new striker in January, while Santiago Gimenez is attracting interest from the Premier League.
Tuttosport (via MilanNews) report this morning that Gimenez has not yet rediscovered the old flame that put him on the radar of Europe’s top clubs when he was at Feyenoord. The fact that he has not yet scored a league goal this season and is now out injured does not paint a pretty picture.
Allegri’s request
Milan sit in second place in the league, just two points behind leaders Roma. The goal is to continue taking it game by game to get to January, when the transfer window reopens.
At this stage, Allegri’s desire is to add some reinforcements to fill the gaps in the squad. The most obvious one, unfortunately for Gimenez, is the striker position. The Mexican has always given his all, and he deserves credit for that, but he has only found the back of the net once in the Coppa Italia.

The Livorno-born coach – who has always praised and defended the Mexican in the media – needs a strong penalty-box scorer with significant physique to support his style. He’s always had those throughout his career.
With this possibility on the horizon, perhaps Gimenez could reconsider his stance on staying at Milan at all costs to try to find his feet again. A home World Cup is approaching, and he cannot risk going into the tournament with things as they are now.
His performances after returning from injury will be assessed, but there’s no shortage of admirers. West Ham are looking for a striker and had previously made an offer for Gimenez. The Hammers will be freeing themselves of Niclas Fullkrug, who is of interest to the Rossoneri given his profile.
