Tuttosport: Countdown to ‘Maignan 2031’ begins – announcement could come over weekend

It seems to be just a matter of time before Mike Maignan arrives at Casa Milan to put pen on paper and sign his new deal.

Rewinding to the summer window, it seemed that Maignan’s days at Milan were numbered amid talk of him wanting a move to Chelsea and there being zero chance of an extension. Yet, since Massimiliano Allegri and his staff arrived, everything has changed.

In the past few days, rumours about the Frenchman’s renewal have gone so far as to talk about agreements being in place. It is believed to be a new five-year deal, therefore running until 2031, and it will see Maignan become the joint-highest earlier in the squad alongside Rafael Leao.

Signing imminent

Fabrizio Romano even tweeted on Saturday: “Milan and Mike Maignan reach verbal agreement over new deal until June 2031! Formal steps to follow but deal in place for French GK who was out of contract in June 2026. Huge move for Milan with Maignan seen as key player.”

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) are reporting this morning, we are now very close to the actual moment of Maignan signing his new contract, to the extend that it could come within the next few days.

In fact, the paper even suggests that the former Lille and PSG man’s new deal could well be made official over the weekend. It would certainly be a nice boost before another tricky away game on Tuesday night against Bologna.
