Tuttosport: Dilemmas in defence and attack – Allegri to make final decisions before Pisa trip

1 week ago 51

After almost two weeks without a match, AC Milan are ready to return to Serie A action against Pisa away from home on Friday night.

Ahead of this match, Massimiliano Allegri can be happy with the recovery of Christian Pulisic, while it will take a few more days to see Alexis Saelemaekers back on the field. The Belgian has not yet fully recovered from the muscle problem that already kept him out against Bologna.

Dilemmas to resolve

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) report this morning, Saelemaekers will be replaced by Zachary Athekame, who scored in the first game this season against Pisa (an equaliser at San Siro deep into added time). The Swiss also started in Bologna, providing a good performance.

In attack, Pulisic has recovered but will initially start on the bench. The other three available forwards – Rafael Leao, Christopher Nkunku and Niclas Fullkrug – will therefore compete for the two starting spots. Allegri will make a decision after today’s training session at Milanello before departing for Pisa.

In midfield, alongside Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot, Youssouf Fofana is expected to keep his spot. On the left, Davide Bartesaghi will once again be available, so the line of five across the midfield will remain the same from the win at the Dall’Ara.

Finally, there could be some changes in defence, where Koni De Winter has performed very well in recent weeks and is perhaps the most in-form man. Matteo Gabbia could make way for him this time, after Strahinja Pavlovic and then Fikayo Tomori were rested in recent matches.
