AC Milan will get down to business today in day one of the preseason training campaign, and Massimiliano Allegri has five aims to achieve.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) report this morning, the new era of Allegri on the Milan bench officially begins. After the athletic tests on Friday and Saturday in separate groups and the call-ups yesterday evening, the coach leads his first session behind closed doors this morning.

In the afternoon, Allegri will do a press conference at 13:00 CEST and then return to the training ground where he will lead a second training session, but this time on the outside pitch to receive a warm welcome from the supporters.

The five missions for Allegri

Allegri has five missions at Milan, starting with the fans. This year, during the raduno, the Curva Sud will not be present. The coach will therefore have the arduous task of mending the relationship with the supporters and succeeding in the difficult task of showing them a united and winning side.

The protagonists of two other missions are the players from which this new Rossoneri course should restart: Mike Maignan and Rafa Leao. Max wanted them strongly, blocking in every way their sales, especially that of the goalkeeper.

Despite this, however, the Rossoneri captain’s contract expiring in June 2026 remains a puzzle to be solved, especially after the disappointments of the last few months, with Allegri aiming to make an impact on the heart of ‘Magic Mike’ also by bringing Claudio Filippi as a goalkeeping coach.

With Leao, however, the discussion is not contractual but tactical, given that Allegri will have to be the one who allows him to take the definitive step to the elite wingers. The Portuguese can decide matches on his own and Allegri must get him to do it most of the time, not every now and again.

The other two missions are instead purely tactical. With the revolution underway in midfield, Allegri will not only have to give the team a new playing identity  but also work hard, and well, on the defensive phase.

The 190 goals conceded in 159 games in the last three seasons is a figure that is way too high for a team like Milan, one that always aims for the top and historically has won titles with defensive resilience.
