Santiago Gimenez has missed the last few games with an ankle issue, but he could make a return on Sunday.
After receiving the positive news that Rafael Leao has avoided a muscle injury and should be available for the Supercoppa Italiana next week, a further boost has arrived regarding the condition of Gimenez.
Santi nearing a return
As today’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanPress) reports, Massimiliano Allegri will be without Leao for the game against Sassuolo on Sunday. Although any kind of strain or tear has been ruled out, he will not be risked given that he still has inflammation in the groin area.
In his place, Allegri hopes to be able to use Gimenez, or at least have him on the bench. El Bebote has already been running for a few days at Milanello without feeling pain in his ankle, so the staff would like to have him back with the squad shortly to have him available on Sunday.
The return of the Mexican striker – who has been sidelined for over a month due to a recurring ankle problem – would be very important numerically as well as tactically. It will be clear in the next few days whether he’ll be able to play against the Neroverdi.
