Tuttosport: Maignan talks heading for positive ending – the reasons for the U-turn

Mike Maignan is getting closer and closer to a contract renewal with AC Milan, in what will be a very pleasant turn of events.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) report this morning, we start from a premise: Maignan’s contract expires at the end of the season and there is no signature yet. That said, after months of blocked negotiations, talks between the two sides have recently resumed and an agreement is closer.

Why the U-turn

Milan, who are convinced they have done everything possible to reach an agreement, have made a significant offer: a fixed €5.5m base salary plus bonuses until 2031.

It’s essentially the same offer as a year ago, but the contract term is different, as the Rossoneri had offered a three-year deal in January 2025. After months of silence, during which Maignan seemed to have put an end to talks, something has changed in recent weeks.

Now the situation has reversed: the Frenchman has opened the door to staying with the Rossoneri and has never been closer to a renewal. What has changed in Mike’s mind? The former Lille man believes more in what is happening at Milan.

Maignan has certainly seen the changes within the club and how much the atmosphere at Milanello (and beyond) has improved since last season. Milan are now competitive, battling for the top spots in the league, and Massimiliano Allegri has had a big impact.

Added to this is the arrival of goalkeeping coach Claudio Filippi with Allegri, who has rekindled Mike’s enthusiasm and has got him back to his best levels. All these ingredients seem to be pointing towards a positive finale.
