A derby between AC Milan and Inter could erupt to try and sign Cagliari goalkeeper Elia Caprile, according to the Italian press.
Recent reports have suggested that Milan are at a complete stalemate with Mike Maignan and his entourage in talks over a renewal. His deal expires at the end of the season, so it is natural for the management to start thinking about how to replace him.
Not only that, but reliability is an issue too. The Frenchman has missed over 40 games since arriving in the summer of 2021 and is currently sidelined by yet another calf issue, so the directors might just be pondering whether it is even worth committing to a rich new deal.
Same doubt, same target
According to Tuttosport (via FcInterNews), both Milan and Inter – who have an ageing Yann Sommer between the posts – are looking at signing a new starting goalkeeper. They have the same target in mind too: Elia Caprile.
The 24-year-old made a permanent move to Cagliari from Napoli this summer having spent last season on loan there, and his impressive performances have begun to arouse interest from some top clubs.

Milan and Inter are monitoring his progress, but the report also mentions that Torino tried to sign the Italian in the summer after they lost Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to Napoli. They could come back in for him again.
The Sardinians wanted at least €20m for Caprile when the window was open, having paid €8m to turn his loan permanent. If he keeps playing well, it is unlikely that asking price will go any direction but up.
