In addition to it being a big game versus a possible top four rival, Samuele Ricci has another reason to try and impress against Atalanta.
As Tuttosport (via MilanPress) recall, Ricci arrived at Milan from Torino in the summer window for a figure of €22m plus bonuses as part of the midfield rebuild following the sale of Tijjani Reijnders, along with Ardon Jashari, Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot.
Ricci showed in a recent interview that he has the intelligence and maturity to understand that it’s not easy to find playing time at top clubs, despite being the captain at his previous club.
Big chances
With hard work in training and some injuries in the midfield, Ricci is starting to get some minutes. He will start again this evening – for the third consecutive match – against Atalanta at the New Balance Arena.

The former Torino man isn’t playing in a position that’s truly his own, as Allegri explained in yesterday’s press conference, but he’s doing reasonably well. There are areas to improve and he must gain confidence, but learning from Modric can and must help.
Gennaro Gattuso will be there to watch him tonight. The Italian national team coach hasn’t yet called Ricci up since taking over from Luciano Spalletti, and tonight he’ll certainly be watched closely to see if he could be part of the next squad in November.
