Alexis Saelemaekers hopes to convince Massimiliano Allegri that he deserves to play a leading role at AC Milan next season, a report claims.
Saelemaekers has returned to Milan after two seasons on loan at Bologna and Roma, and his return could come at a crucial time for the team. The Belgian is known for his versatility and ability to play on either flank, at a moment when Milan are sorely lacking in that area.
Alexis to the rescue
As Tuttosport (via MilanWorld) report, the full-back slots are uncovered at present. Theo Hernandez has left the club, Emerson Royal is waiting for news about an exit and reinforcements have not yet arrived from the window (Archie Brown, who seemed close, has chosen Fenerbahce).
This situation has brought Saelemaekers back into the spotlight, because he can plug basically any gap out wide. Allegri intends to capitalise on Saelemaekers’ versatility, testing him at right-back (alongside Alex Jimenez) while awaiting the arrival of a regular starter.

In recent seasons, both with Bologna and Roma, Saelemaekers has demonstrated his ability to contribute both as an attacking winger and as a full-back, while he has arguably been his best at wing-back.
Allegri is working to tailor this new role for him, aiming to relaunch him at Milan. Saelemaekers himself has stated his intention to stay at Milan and regain a leading role, building on his positive loan experience at Roma (32 appearances, 7 goals, and 7 assists).
