Tuttosport: ‘They need a Giroud’ – the worrying data regarding Milan’s striker issues

1 week ago 39

A lot of the media attention surrounding AC Milan at the moment concerns the attack, more specifically the lack of goals from a striker.

Today’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews24) sounds the alarm about the fact that Milan do not have a striker that is scoring regularly. They have an article headlined: “Never say centre-forward. Milan, they need a Giroud.”

The newspaper highlights how the Rossoneri are yet to adequately replace Olivier Giroud, whose absence is felt in terms of scoring contribution. The most important investment of the last winter transfer window, Santiago Gimenez, hasn’t netted in the league so far this season, which is a problem.

What the numbers say

Tuttosport provides a statistic that clearly defines the problem of the centre-forward role at Milan, covering the last 46 Serie A matches (38 in the 2024-25 season and eight from the current one).

Since August 2024, the Rossoneri have played 46 league games and have scored 74 goals. Only 15 of these have come from strikers in the various systems used by Paulo Fonseca, Sergio Conceiçao and Massimiliano Allegri.

Five came from Alvaro Morata, who ended up staying for half a season before going to Turkey. The same amount has come from Gimenez, then three from Tammy Abraham, two from Luka Jovic and zero from the young Francesco Camarda.

All things considered, Milan’s strikers have accounted for a meagre 20% of their total goals since the start of last season. This figure reinforces the belief that the management must intervene in the window, to find a proper No.9 who can guarantee goals.
