UEFA president Alexander Ceferin has revealed what Luka Modric told him about his decision to join AC Milan after leaving Real Madrid.

It is believed that the Milan leadership took some convincing when Igli Tare presented the idea of signing Modric, given they prefer to spend on younger players. However, the arrival of the Croatian is a move that has so far been a complete success, both for Milan and the player.

In tonight’s game against Parma away from home, Modric is expected to make his 11th consecutive league start. Massimiliano Allegri is relying heavily on the veteran as the orchestrator in the middle of the park, even if his minutes will have to be managed a bit more carefully in time.

Ceferin spoke at the Football Business Forum which was held yesterday at Bocconi University in Milan. While he did not name Modric specifically, it is very obvious who he was referring to, with his comments via MilanPress.

“I believe that in Europe you can still earn good money. A player I won’t name, but who came to play in Milan and is from my area [Modric], told me that he’s not interested in earning a little more money, but wants to play at the highest level for as long as possible,” he said.
