Christian Vieri has shared his thoughts on AC Milan ahead of the first game of the season, sharing a story from Luka Modric’s first day of training at Milanello.
While most pundits and experts hold Napoli and Inter as the favourites for the Scudetto, they all agree that Milan made the right choice to bring Max Allegri back. A foundation has seemingly already been built, and the addition of Luka Modric has only increased the experience.
In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Milan and Italy striker Vieri was asked about the arrival of the duo. He believes that Modric is a fantastic signing for Milan as age doesn’t matter for him, while Allegri was the right man after last season’s chaos.
What does Modric and De Bruyen bring to Serie A?
“Infinite class, experience, and even media appeal because everyone wants to see them, a sign that Serie A is increasingly important. De Bruyne left Guardiola for Conte, and it’s a significant choice: with Antonio, you work double or triple, which means getting back into the game at over 30.
“Regarding Modric, I asked my friend Bernardo Corradi, now Allegri’s assistant, directly: he told me that he played all his first passes in training as no-look ones, with the outside of the boot. Unbelievable. With him, Milan made a huge coup because age doesn’t matter at this level.”
How important is Allegri’s return to AC Milan?
“Milan needed to get back on track and hired the best coach possible to achieve that: Allegri brings calm, understands pressure, and knows how to win. Max is also the right man to bring out the best in Leao. This must be his year, one of consistency and not just flashes of brilliance.”
Modric is expected to play from the first minute in the Rossoneri’s opener against Cremonese this evening. Allegri knows that they need to start strong and in the cameo against Bari last weekend, the Croatian veteran showed what he can bring to this team.
