Vincent Kompany has warned his players they are "not that good" and urged them not to get swept up in the praise following their remarkable start to the campaign.
Bayern Munich has now chalked up 16 consecutive victories in 2025-26 after seeing off Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday. Former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz found the net twice before receiving his marching orders for a shocking tackle, yet Kompany's depleted side managed to cling on for triumph in the latter stages despite Joao Neves finding the target.
The Bavarian team has cemented its status as the leading contender for the trophy with a display that highlighted both its attacking flair and defensive solidity.
Bayern sits at the summit of the Champions League group phase ahead of Arsenal and is soaring at the top of the Bundesliga table with the team's flawless run as Kompany oversees his sophomore campaign.
The Belgian tactician was pleased with his squad's showing but remains determined to keep his players grounded.
Kompany is keen to ensure his team doesn't become overconfident, while also wanting to shield his side from negative effects when results don't go their way.
The former Manchester City center-back explained: "I always tell my players, 'When there's hype, please don't believe it, you're not that good - and when you lose a game or you have a bad performance, don't believe that you're bad, you're not that bad' - that's something I always keep with me.
"Now we've won 16. But from tomorrow it's back to zero, and we have to win the next game."
Kompany was especially pleased with Bayern's commanding first-half display and wasn't taken aback by how effectively his side defended when PSG increased the pressure.
He added: "We obviously would've liked to have kept playing in the second half like we'd done in the first, but you get games where things change through situations like the red card.
"I also want us to enjoy it when we have to defend. We work on it a lot in training.
"That's why it didn't surprise me that we did it well. The first half was really pleasing. In the second half, we had to play differently. We know that the Champions League isn't decided yet, but today was a really important three points for us."
Opposing manager Luis Enrique was equally complimentary about Bayern, describing the Germans as Europe's finest team.
"At 11 against 11, Bayern were stronger, without a doubt," he said. You play against the best team in Europe, with the best results, and they pressed us at a high level."
