Virgil van Dijk made feelings clear to referee after Man City VAR controversy

Virgil van Dijk made his frustration clear to the referee following a controversial VAR decision during Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City.

City winger Jeremy Doku took advantage of a defensive lapse, driving into the penalty area before being clipped by Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. Despite City having two more chances as play continued, VAR prompted referee Chris Kavanagh to review the incident on the pitchside monitor.

After a lengthy review, Kavanagh awarded a penalty, sparking protests from Liverpool players and staff , who argued the contact was minimal and play had continued. Mamardashvili redeemed himself by saving the resulting spot kick.
